What would you ask if you were selling a set of wheels and tires for a 2011 sportwagen?

16 inch steel wheels with Blizzak WS70 tires with 60% tread life and 1.5 years old?

Obviously I has no need for them and the GX needs tires.

On a related note, anyone have good things to say about grabber AT 2, Hankook Dynapro AT-M or Khumo AT51 tires?

Photo of a slightly annoying discovery. No, not the lug rash...the thing that is missing. Good news? They are M12 1.5 just like the cruiser, so my spare lug went on for now, and I had the place that sold it to me buy 4 new lugs to replace this one and the 3 locking lugs.

I think $150-$200 for the wheels and tires. Good luck trying to sell them. I can’t get anybody to buy my mostly worn out 205/55-16's.

Wheel size, lug pattern, offset, any damage? Tire size, brand, date manufactured, and tread depths in /32. That with photos of any Damage spots should cover it.

Have heard good stuff about the Grabbers, nothing about the others.

FWIW, my Nitto Terra Grapplers are insanely quiet on pavement and perform excellent in snow. The non-G2 grapplers are still made in Japan.

16x6.5 5x112 16" ET50 (5omm backspacing) steelies. Don’t have tread depth handy, but I would say 60% rear, 50% front (for winters). I will need to measure when I get home.

In my experience, used tire buyers are the cheapest people in the world. My experience says: Price them cheap, expect to be haggled to death, don’t expect to get a lot of cash in the end, but be glad they’re gone so that you can move on.

I sold my old FoST tires/on Taurus wheels (might as well count those as steelies) for $175...advertised them for $200.

My craptastic wheels/tires that were on the Cougar I sold for $100, and within a few hours of posting the ad.

I’d ask $400 for the VW snow tires. Maybe more.

I had Grabber AT2s on my WK but I never took it off road. It was however very good at driving over/through large mounds of snow. They were also very heavy and decreased had a 2-3 mpg hit compared to the terrible Goodyear Fortera HLs that came on it. A little noisy as well.

Does it need A/T tires? Isn’t this supposed to be your wife’s vehicle?

How are they in rain? I’m going to be replacing the Pirelli Scorpions on my truck before long, and the Nitto is one option. The Pirellis are terrible in the rain!

$400 is encouraging, maybe I’ll start at $350 and go from there.

The only reason to consider AT is because the tires that are on there now are dry rotted, so it needs new ones, and it would be nice to get something with the mountain snowflake symbol for a little extra winter safety and accessibility (when the canyons are under snow advisory they require winter tires or chains, even with 4wd...the snowflake gets a pass)

I have no complaints. TG’s definitely hold their own in rain, snow, and ice on pavement. On the trail they’re quite capable for a less-aggressive tire.

I’ve had a couple sets of Grabber AT2s. I liked them. Their strongest attribute I felt was their snow traction. Particularly, they did well with “sideways traction” meaning you could hold really significant slide angles and still feel very controlled. A lot of tires lose their bite when not rolling straight ahead. They weren’t bad in mud since they have sizeable voids and feels tread. I did chip the edges of some of the lugs on a trip to Moab (they were on a 2005 Durango). Road noise was minimal and they balanced fine.

Ok, makes sense with mountain snowflake.

The AT2 didn’t ride rough so much as it was just an old school truck tire.

From looking at the Tire Rack reviews I think the Kumho AT51 or especially the Yokohama G015 would still give the mountain snowflake but be more civilized.

I’d also take a nice long look at the Nokian WRG3 SUV . It’s an all-weather tire, basically a snow tire with not quite as soft of a rubber compound so you don’t have take them off when the weather gets warm. They have the mountain snowflake symbol and probably will be generally better on-road tires than A/Ts.

Thanks, my main off-road driving is on farm trails so nothing too extreme. The Pirellis were good in mud but wet pavement combined with a slight uphill and my tires are spinning.

Sounds like a good application for a TG. Just remember that it’s not a mud terrain and will load up somewhat quickly.

I had the Hankook AT-M on my V8 4Runner. They were great tires. Lasted 40k and had lots left in them when I parted ways with it.

When the tires wear out on my GX the Hankooks are going on.

I had cooper at3s which are similar to hankook on my old 4runner and they were alright. They broke traction very abruptly and were more of an aaggressiveall season than a good all terrain.

I had somewhat old grabbers on my pathfinder when I bought it and I really liked them. More aggressive than the coopers, and more smooth release from grip. Look much cooler as well.

I currently run BFGs that I got on sale for close to the price point of those cheaper ATs and they are by far the best of the three in my experience. Buttery smooth release from grip in all weather conditions (and losing grip is rare as well) and they are only a little louder than the coopers.

All in all, I would recommend the grabbers or holding out for a deal on BFGs

Wheels and tires for $300 should be possible, but be prepared!

Make sure any and all blemishes on the wheels are shown and noted in advance.

Have information about the new price for the wheels and tires on hand. Don’t bother trying to compare prices with other used wheels, just reference the new price, because the potential buyer has always seen them for less elsewhere.

Measure tread depth with the correct tool on all four tires at the centre and on both shoulders, and ensure you have this info handy. I’ve had people reject a $40 tire because it had slight unevenness...

I tried to sell a decent set of summer tires for the 4Runner at $200 and ended up letting them go for something like $120. Then the guy called me the next morning asking to return them because he bought the wrong size... HA HA HA! NO.
